Canton Landfill Solar Facility: Canton, Massachusetts

On June 4, 2010, Southern Sky Renewable Energy was selected by the Canton Board of Selectmen to construct a solar facility on the town of Canton Landfill. The solar project covers approximately 15 acres of the 40 acre landfill and has a name plate capacity of 5.75 MW.

The completed project will be the largest solar photovoltaic facility in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and in New England. In addition, the project will take a nonperforming municipal asset and convert it into an asset that will generate direct revenue and a reduction in town energy bills over the next 20 years. The project will create an estimated 25 construction jobs and over 90 permanent jobs as a result of the investment that Southern Sky Renewable Energy plans to make at the landfill site.
